The most recent apocalyptic literature in christianity. And something about the older one.

(repeat of this article on the "Wildmanblog" from 8.2.2011)

I see a very big need for sound apocalyptic literature in the Christian, muslim
and jewish West. There are so many misunderstandings in this field, so
much "antropomorphism" in the interpretation of the apocalyptic symbols
(antropomorphism means to interpret symbols in a literal way).

But this is some of the better apocalyptic Christian literature I have found
and read in all my searching, literature written by still living people. It's
really not much:

Jurgen Moltmann: The Corning of God: Christian Eschatology , 1996 (quite
good)

Chabibi: Johannes Rebus, En studie i Uppenbarelseboken. 2000.

Nils Tågt: Når han kommer. (1970-t) (I don't know ifTågt is still alive)

Mikael Tellbe: Lammet och odjuret. 1997

David Wilkerson: The vision. 1973

N.T.Wright: Surprised by hope. 2008 (very good)

Sven Reichmann: I väntan på Messias. 2001 (Reichmann is really one of the
better fundamentalist evangelicals I have read, with a softness in spirit)
Millard J. Erickson: Basic guide to eschatology. Making sense of the
Millennium. 1977.

John Polkinghorne: The God of hope and the end of the world. 2002
Zac Poonen: The final triumph. 1982.

If we take older literature, I will mention following:

N.P.Wetterlund: Andens lag, I-II, 1911-1914 (more than 1200 pages)
(extremely good)

F.Godet: Bibliska studier, del II (kapitlet om Uppenbarelseboken), 1890-t
Emanuel Swedenborg: Apocalypsis Revelata, 1700-t
Folke Thorell: Når Gud talar. 1950-t.

Sadhu Sundar Singh: The visions of Sadhu Sundar Singh. (på svenska
"Syner från andevärlden) Extremely good.

F.W.Farrar: Mercy and Judgment. (på svenska "Dom och
barmhärtighet") 1880-t.

Poul Madsen: Den kommende herlighed. 1950-t.

Elias Aslaksen: Jesus kommer, er du rede? 1930-t.

Elias Aslaksen: Jesu brud. 1930-t.

Henry Drummond. The city without a church. 1880-t.

* * *

Do you have any more suggestions? I really need them. We need a lot of
literature in this field.

Be very careful with following present Christian apocalyptic writers:

Tim Lahaye, Jerry B. Jenkins, Holger Nilsson, Rick Joyner, Hal Lindsey, John
F. Walvoord, J. Dwight Pentecost, Ramon Bennett, Jerry Falwell, Mark Biltz,
Leo Meller, Teijo-Kalevi Lusa, Pekka Sartola, Emanuel Minos, Matti Våisånen

and with following from older ages: Folke Thorell, C.A.Chader, Grattan
Guinness, Fredrik Franson, A.J.Gordon, R.A.Torrey, D.L.Moody, A.B.Simpson,
Lewi Pethrus, T.B.Barratt, William Miller, E.G.White, John Nelson Darby,
Frank Mangs, G.E.Beskow, C.I.Scofield, Lewis Sperry Chafer, Sigurd Bratlie.

The whole theology of "Rapture" is a depriver of all sound apocalyptic
symbolism, and the first stage to understand the Apocalypse of John, is to
abandon the theology of rapture and embrace some kind
ofposttribulationism", that Jesus will return in the end of harmageddon, not
before.

And please don 't believe in the stupid literal interpretation of the "mark of
the beast", 666, as referring to a physical microchip in the forehead or hand.
This will never happen globally, because of the religious taboo of the
Christian bible. What John of the Apocalypse really meant by this symbol,
must be clear for those who have followed this blog: it's being a slave of the
Babylon-system. It's being like those who read this blog. A "normal" person
of the present society.
