"Then I saw thrones, and the people sitting on them had been given the authority to judge. And I saw the souls of those who had been beheaded for their testimony about Jesus and for proclaiming the word of God. They had not worshiped the beast or his statue, nor accepted his mark on their forehead or their hands. They all came to life again, and they reigned with Christ for a thousand years."
(Revelation 20:4)
Jamieson-Fausset-Brown Bible commentary writes thus about this verse:
"souls—This term is made a plea for denying the literality of the first resurrection, as if the resurrection were the spiritual one of the souls of believers in this life; the life and reign being that of the soul raised in this life from the death of sin by vivifying faith. But "souls" expresses their disembodied state (compare Re 6:9) as John saw them at first; "and they lived" implies their coming to life in the body again, so as to be visible, as the phrase, Re 20:5, "this is the first resurrection," proves; for as surely as "the rest of the dead lived not (again) until," &c., refers to the bodily general resurrection, so must the first resurrection refer to the body. This also accords with 1Co 15:23, "They that are Christ's at His coming." Compare Ps 49:11-15. From Re 6:9, I infer that "souls" is here used in the strict sense of spirits disembodied when first seen by John; though doubtless "souls" is often used in general for persons, and even for dead bodies."
I agree completely. The saints will resurrect literally at the Second Coming, the question is how it will happen. Usually it is conceived as them receiving new spiritual bodies, but if we believe, like I do, that we get such a body at death, this explanation is not plausible. I will promote the pretty unusual belief that we will be born anew into a new race of Jesus Christ, that he will start upon earth, in a form of new heavenly metempsychosis or reincarnation. We will then get as real and physical bodies as now, but only in a transformed world, a world that has been formed to a paradise by God. This will be a compensation for a life in persecution and suffering, and it will not be granted to those who got their salary on earth, they will remain in Hades, the Underworld, among bacteria and atoms in the microlife, in a sleeping state.
Jesus Christ will be the first new man upon the earth after all humans are killed in the Second Coming (read Rev. 19:11-21), and he will be created from the dust of the earth, like Adam, from the clay in the forest, not born, and then the second Eve, Maria Magdalena, will be created from his rib, and they will have children. It will be a true new creation where everything will be created anew, everything will start from the beginning. This will happen after the earth is cleaned from technology and ugly buildings like factories. This will happen during the Wedding of the Lamb, which is also a time of judgement, during eight months after the Second Coming, from 11.11.2020 to 22.7.2021, when the animals also will consume the dead bodies of the fallen human race.
Surely God also can create other bodies than Jesus' body from the clay of the forest, and thus make the resurrection a bit faster, I am open to this possibility, but I do not count on it. God is a slow God.
