We need itinerant, wandering preachers today more than ever

Publicerad 2020-09-12 21:49:00 i Church History, Itinerant preachers, Psychiatry and psychology, Revivals, William Bramwell,

Charles Goodwin writes in this essay about the old Methodist preacher William Bramwell: "This modem neglect of Bramwell may be due to his being the last great heir to a type of Methodism which was gradually disowned by the Wesleyan connexion in the five years following the death of John Wesley. A type of Methodism referred to by Wesley as "ancient Methodism." This ancient Methodism, according to John Wesley, was founded upon the principle of itinerant preachers. In 1789 Wesley warned the Methodist people that "if itinerancy is interrupted" then Methodism "will speedily come to nothing."

My comment: Where are the itinerant (kringvandrande) or wandering preachers in Methodism today? They are gone. Wesley weeps in heaven. And Methodism is also withering strongly as a revival movement, and has been withering and dying for a long, long time, I know a lot about the movement, I have been a part of it for many years. It is because those old traditions of itinerant preaching, preaching in poverty, are gone. Why has the fire of the old apostles vanished? WHY? Should it not be more burning today, because we are closer to the coming of the Lord?! But no. But do not weep too much, the Scriptures prophecied about this situation, that in the last days love would grow cold among most Christians (Matt.24:12). Lift your eyes, because our redemption is close.

Today we need itinerant preachers more than ever. Become a such one, dear soul. Leave everything and follow in the footsteps of the Lord, even if they would put you into mental hospital. Your salary in heaven will be great.

Oh! Lord Jesus! Baptize us with the Spirit of John Wesley and the first Methodists, yes, even with the Spirit of the Welsh revival itself! Come, Lord Jesus, come soon!!!!!
