"Is Jesus Omnipresent?" An article with my comments
Read a good article with the name "Is Jesus Omnipresent?" here.
My comments:
The article states that Jesus was omnipresent even while on earth, a theory I have not met before, but which feels reasonable. Jesus only hid his humanity while on earth, that was his kenosis, his emptying of himself. I believe that too. We are also called, as God's children, to hide our glory while on earth, in deep humility. In that way the sufferings of Christ were deliberate, he could have defended himself with his divinity. But he believed that there was a higher plan, for altering the history of mankind. Therefore he suffered so much for our sake. He wanted to feel our sufferings in himself as far as it was possible, so he could be our merciful high priest, therefore he became man from the beginning.
Jesus is omnipresent because he is the Father. He is the Father in human form, visible form. He has taken up humanity into the divine, therefore his humanity is also omnipresent, unlike the opinion of the article. The homepage where the article is located want to separate Jesus from God, as if there were several persons in the godhead. That is bitheism and tritheism, i.e. polytheism of the most basal form. Strange enough the author also denies the trinity, so I have a hard time figuring out where he stands in the issue. But we run into troubles when we want to separate Jesus from God.
"And when they climbed into the boat, the wind died down. Then those who were in the boat worshiped him, saying, “Truly you are the Son of God.” (Matthew 14:32-33)
Notice that in the context, there is no mention of any command from Jesus not to worship him, but the following verse is: "When they had crossed over, they landed at Gennesaret." (V. 34)
Only God the Father is worthy of worship, otherwise we are polytheists, so this verse is proof that Jesus was in fact the Father himself that came down to us. And only the Father is omnipresent.
There are a lot of places in the New Testament you could quote to prove that Jesus and the Father are distinct persons, as many places as there are to prove the opposite, but you have to choose which of them you use to interpret the places of the other side of the coin. If you choose the "Jesus is the Father" side, you can still make sense of the places of the other side. But it is difficult. The New Testament is a mystical piece of work.
